Lazy Lagoon Island Retreat

We visited Lazy Lagoon after a safari, and what a place to unwind, and get the dust out of your pores.

It is a small private island lodge, and is run by Alex and Janie Fox, whose knowledge of Africa is just amazing.

You can only arrive one way, and that is by boat, and be warned you will get your feet and legs wet because you will have to wade ashore!!

When you get there a most pleasant surprise awaits because here in the back of beyond is a real Robinson Cruso island, a hidden, almost unknown gem, and speaking personally, I hope it stays that way!!

You will sleep in one of twelve bandas, set by the beach, which is actually about five miles of unspoilt white sand paradise. The bandas are well furnished, and have solar powered hot water, a large shady verandah with spacious rooms and big windows. They are constructed from palm leaf thatch in keeping with the local tradition, and with a wooden panelled interior. The verandahs are perfect for relaxing in a hammock, and watching the fishing fleet go out and come in, and there is a loft area where childrens' beds can be put.

There is room service, and the beach is right on your doorstep.

The food is impressive in its variety and choice, with all three daily meals being incredibly varied. The seafood as you would expect is abundant and very fresh.

You eat in the restaurant which along with the bar are at the tip of the island with the most glorious views of the lagoon.

There is as little or as much as you want to do, but after a safari most people will want to chill out for a few days, and the deserted beach, the beautiful clear turquoise sea can be swum in at high or low tide. Why not try snorkelling, or kayaking, or sailing, or take a dhow trip to a sand island, or a dusk cruise. Perhaps you just want to lie in the sun, and read.

Whatever you do, try to visit Bagamovo town, because it was Livingstone's 'Gateway to Africa' with a truly dark past, as it was the slave port from mainland Africa to Zanzibar. You cannot fail to be moved by the whipping tree which can still be seen in the town square, and the cemetery which bears witness to the suffering and death of the Europeans who made their lives here.

Lazy Lagoon claims to be the most exclusive beach resort in Tanzania.

This might well be fair comment, but I would say a stay of three or four nights either before or after a safari would be about right.

The Responsible Tourists Of Tanzania

Tanzania not just has all of it-- it has it with design - a distinctly African style. Tanzania is a complete on attack on all your senses; Tanzania is an experience. Accountable tourist should be an obligation for everybody including the humble tourist. Whilst you are on safari and in the towns and towns you can affect in a negative or positive method-- your safari will make an impact it is a concern of what sort of effect. Tourist and Tourists have a duty to the environment and just as crucial to individuals whose country you go to.

It is possible and in truth should be the case that Responsible Tourism needs you to just unwind and enjoy your safari. You do not in fact need to do anything while on your safari. Exactly what can an accountable traveler do to make the difference ...?

A small percentage of the money you part with and hand over to a tour operator should be used help the communities in Tanzania; the neighborhoods that the success of your safari rests upon. Take time when reserving a safari to make sure the business you make use of are truly assisting the individuals and the locations you are checking out.

Charities are increasingly aiming to end up being self finding, this indicates becoming leaner and becoming more responsible, they need to become a business. Some charities and businesses such as Afriko Club, Naipenda Safaris and perhaps Hoopoe for example, are 3 charities or companies that make use of tourist to money community projects in a responsible method. Funds raised by tourism go toward structure schools, eco friendly lodges, centers and looking after children who would otherwise be delegated look after themselves.

Whilst on safari I motivate you to take an hour or two, even a day or two if you have time and are simply a little interested in responsible tourism and to town life of Tanzania. You will be richly rewarded and your safari will acquire a deeper, a more long lasting memories.

If not by your trip operator an excellent safari driver/guide will organize this for you. If you are not interested do not fret simply utilize a safari business that will assist a Tanzanian Community and sit back and enjoy your safari and understand you are making a distinction.

Try to select a business whose profits will stay in Tanzania - not a South African company, not an American or European business - utilize a Tanzanian Company. The native safari operators in Tanzania are more than 80 percent of the certified trip companies in the nation, their figures in tourism arrivals add up to less than 20 percent of all the tourists seeing Tanzania.

Lots of international travel representatives utilize ground operators based in Tanzania - ask when you book a safari which ground operator will be utilized and check out the web site for any signs that they are involved in Responsible Tourism which they are Tanzania possessed. If the earnings continue to be in Tanzania in some way the communities as a whole will benefit.

I motivate you to come to Tanzania and explore, the culture which is simply as rich and interesting as the scenery and remarkable wildlife - Safari means 'trip' in Swahili - let your safari be a trip to discover a different culture and to discover more about yourself. Make distinction when you go to Tanzania and make sure to use a business that is committed to constructing a stronger community.
